Take Care Of Yourself; Be Kind To Your Body & Mind

1 CommentThursday, 15 January 2015  |  Admin

Winter is a stressful time, with Christmas and New Year draining finances, the cold icy weather preventing us from getting anywhere fast and the lack of daylight negatively affecting our energy levels. We are living in a connected world, working longer hours and pushing ourselves to the absolute limit at work and at home.

When I think of the fast paced world we live in, I am always reminded of the Cherry Blossom flower. Bizarre connection I know, but in Japanese culture it symbolises the fragility of life. Opportunities can come and go, life will throw you curveballs and you will experience many daily trials and challenges. C’est la vie! Through all of this, it’s important to stop and take care of yourself to avoid damaging yourself and your relationships.

Many will experience symptoms of SAD during the winter months. This is called seasonal affective disorder which causes depressive symptoms including lack of energy, low mood and motivation. Making small changes in your routine can help to lift your spirits and ensure that you’re mindful of your body and mental health.

Take a brisk walk during lunch when its light – there’s nothing like a little fresh air to keep you going! Enjoy the few hours of daylight that we have by heading outside and absorbing as much of it as you can.

Talk to your pharmacist about getting more minerals and vitamins into your diet – you must try to eat as much fruit and veg as you can, even when it’s much more tempting to reach for the heavy carbs. If your diet isn’t too great, then definitely call into your local pharmacy and grab some supplements. Everyone needs their daily intake of vitamin C and D!

Change your perfume – swap your musky winter scent for a light spring fragrance to help you think of warmer, sunnier days. Smells can revitalise your senses and instantly improve your mood. I love the L’occitane Fleurs de Cerisier perfume as it’s a nice pretty floral fragrance.

Add a bright pop of lipstick before you leave for the office– make-up has empowered generation after generation of women to feel strong and confident. Make-up helps express your personality and can certainly give you a little boost when you’re feeling down. A slick of red lippy is a small change that can help make you feel that little bit more ready to take on the day.

Get a good night’s sleep – a good night’s sleep is imperative if you want to have a productive day. Don’t reach for the phone at night, read a book instead of watching a DVD and use a lavender scented product to help soothe and calm you. The this works, sleep balm is perfect for applying to your pulse points. Breathe in deeply just before you hit the sack.
